RAF Tornado GR4 Aircraft
This fin cap is from Tornado aircraft serial ZD843 (Last photos illustrates this aircraft in service)
This aircraft is a Kandahar Afghanistan veteran. Traces of sand are still on the underside of the fin cap.
Disposed of as MOD surplus this fin cap may well be one of the only 100% genuine and authentic 15 Sqn items of memorabilia that become available to the general public.
On 01 October 1970, the Sqn was reformed at Honington, before moving to Laarbruch in January 1971. After the Gulf War, three Tornado Squadrons at Laarbruch were disbanded, XV Squadron being one of these, at the end of 1991. On 1 April 1992, the XV (Reserve) numberplate was given to the Tornado Weapons Conversion Unit at Honington. XV(R) Squadron remained at Honington training Tornado aircrew until November 1993, when it moved to Lossiemouth, it’s present home.
Impressive piece of Jet Art
The Tornado is a twin engine variable geometry swing wing combat aircraft used by the RAF today.
To enable it to perform well across an entire flight envelope, the Tornado was designed to allow the pilot to sweep the wings back during flight.
This enabled the aircraft to perform exceptionally well at low-level supersonic flight, as well as short field take off and landing.
Used as flown condition. Various scratches and marks to the surface finish from service use
